Baby sitting can be a good way to earn some extra money if you have some spare time or just like kids. Before you decide to do this remember that you will be responsible for other peoples children and if anything happens you will be responsible. Here are a few tips to follow when you are babysitting:

1. Get emergency Numbers= If something happens while you are babysitting you will have to know who to call. 911 is the most important but here are some others that would also be good to have. Poison Control, Hospital, Parents Number, Number to someone to call if you can not get a hold of the parents.

2. Know of any medical problems if any= Know whether the child has medical conditions such as allergies, Seizures, Illnesses or other medical conditions and know what to do if something happens.

3. Make sure you know of any other problems that you need to know= The parents will usually tell you but make sure you ask to be sure.

Now that we have covered that lets go on how to get it started.

Your first step would be to make a plan. Set the price you want to charge, hours you are available, age group you want to tend, ect. Check with other babysitters and see what they do and make your plan from there. Find out there prices, ect and try to keep at what others are doing.

After you have a plan it is time to advertise. You can place ads in the paper or you can put free ones on places like www.Craigslist.org. You will also want to talk to all your friends, relatives, and neighbors and see if you can watch their children for them. Once you have a regular group of customers you will not have to advertise as much if any.

Also be sure to get a list of references that your customers can call. Some people will not let you watch their kids without them if they do not know you. If you baby sit for people you know you may not have to worry about references but they are always good to have. To get them just ask people who know you well that will tell others how good you are and that you are capable of doing the job.

Once you get jobs be sure to watch the kids and pay attention to them. Don’t just watch T.V. or listen to music, talk on the phone, ect but, Do play games with them or watch a movie with them or whatever you and the kids want to do together. If the kids like you and have fun the parents will be more likely to ask you again because the kids are happy with you. If the kids do not like you the parents may decide on someone else.

Also be sure to clean up messes and tidy up the home. This will also impress parents. And most importantly follow the instructions the parents give you exactly. If you do not follow instructions this will probably not go well with the parents.

Babysitting can be fun and you can also make a little extra spending money. Just remember to be responsible and have fun.
