How To Stop Dependence On Sleeping Pills
posted April 5, 2007 - 10:01pm Sleeping pills are becoming more and more common with those who struggle to sleep at night. Whether you have trouble falling asleep, or staying asleep, these pills can work wonders and help a lot. Though they are supposedly not addicting at all, they are in the sense that many
people depend very strongly on them. Without them, sleep seems impossible after using them for a while. This article will discuss ways to break the habit of taking sleeping pills and getting a good night sleep on your own.
The best way to stop taking sleeping pills is to stop taking them altogether. This is also the most difficult way to stop using them. The best time to cease using sleeping pills is on a vacation or even a weekend. This is good because if you have a really bad night of sleep, you have time to recuperate before the work week begins again.
Having your mind and body at ease before going to bed is what will help you to sleep best. One way of relaxing yourself is to take a shower. Being in the hot water and then getting out into the cooler air will relax your body greatly. You will feel very comfortable and your stress level should be pretty low. This will help you to get to sleep a little bit easier.
There are a couple of things that you should stay away from any time before bed in order to sleep better. The first thing that you shouldn’t do is eat a lot of food. Do not eat an entire meal before bed, even though you may want to. This will most certainly keep you awake for quite some time. Your body will be working and focusing on digesting the food; making sleep difficult.
The next thing to stay away from is smoking before bed. Though cigarettes may usually calm you down, they will keep you awake if you smoke before bed. Cigarettes stimulate your body and this makes sleep hard to get.
The most obvious thing not to do before bed is drink coffee or any type of drink with caffeine. Though this seems like a no-brainer, many people still drink whatever they want before bed. Caffeine is guaranteed to keep you up for hours. You will be wishing you had sleeping pills pretty badly.
Do not exercise before you go to sleep. Exercise gets your heart pumping very quickly and gets adrenaline moving throughout your body. If you do keep up a regular schedule working out at a gym or at home, move your workout time to the day.
These are all ways to help you sleep better in order to get you away from needing sleeping pills. Sleeping pills are very good, and some genuinely need them; but if they are avoidable, natural sleep will be better for you. Try these methods and see if they work for you.
