How to stop fingernail biting

Many times some habits are hard to stop. Fingernail biting is a common habit among children and adults.

The two things most people noticed first about you are your face and your hands. Some people are very expressive when they speak by using hand gestures. This makes their hands more noticeable.

When I was younger I had a severe nail biting habit, so severe that sometimes my finger tips would bleed, and become sore. My fingernails were extremely short and the skin around my fingertips looked ragged.

I used to look at advertisements in magazines and see women and girls with beautiful long fingernails which is what I wanted to have, but I had no idea how to go about doing this. One day my hands looked so ugly and the skin was so sore I made up my mind to stop biting my fingernails. I wanted to have pretty hands and long fingernails.

With patience and perseverance within a month or two my fingertips healed up and my fingernails started getting longer. When I looked at my hands and saw how pretty they were starting to become this gave me the incentive to continue to stop biting my fingernails.

This is how I stopped biting my fingernails, and I have not started biting them at all since then.

This method may not work for you so I'm giving you some other tips to help stop this nasty habit.

It is true that fingernail biting stems from anxiety. Make sure to pinpoint what is bothering you so you can deal with it effectively in other ways.

Anxiety can be helped at times by eating properly. If your diet contains too much sugar or you are not drinking decaffeinated beverages it is most likely that you tend to be an anxious person. Adding more calcium to your diet may help. Calcium is reputed to help calm and relax your nerves thus easing stress. Calcium is also good to help maintain healthy bones, teeth, and fingernails. So this means your fingernails won't break as easily as before, so you can wear them styled longer.

Should you still have the desire to chew on something constantly try eating raw vegetables sticks which are more healthy for you than fingernails anyway.

There are products out on the market used to help stop fingernail biting. many of them are in liquid form to brush on your fingernails like nail polish. These liquids contain a bitter flavored oil that tastes nasty when you put your fingers in your mouth. The trouble with these is sometimes people get used to the taste and you have to keep reapplying the liquid after each hand washing.

You could apply fake fingernails to your hands which would cover up your own nails and make it look like you actually have beautiful fingernails. This may give you an incentive to try to make your own fingernails get long enough to look like the fake ones. And should you happen to go to bite your fingernails, you'll be biting on hard plastic.

Of course you could wear gloves on your hands, but this going to look a little silly in the middle of summer. you are also not going to be very dexterious wearing gloves all the time.

I would recommend these steps to help you have longer fingernails and to stop your nail biting habit.

Make up your mind that you want to have long beautiful healthy finger nails.

Research other ways to deal with anxiety.

Add more calcium and stress reducing foods to your diet.

Look at the advertisements on television and in magazines showing beautiful hands and long fingernails. You may have to even post them on your walls, mirrors, and anywhere else that might help to remind you of how you would like your hands to look.

Come up with a reward for yourself at different time intervals. If you can make it through an entire day without biting your nails reward yourself with something small. If you can make it one day I'm sure you can continue to make it for two, three, or more days and even weeks without biting your nails.

Go shopping and look in the cosmetics aisle to see how many beautiful colors of nail polish there are. This may help stop you from being tempted to bite your fingernails. You could reward yourself after a week of not biting your nails with a bottle of nail polish.

If people start to give you complements on how nice your hands look this may give you more incentive to to stop biting your fingernails.

If your friends also bite their fingernails, you may want to form a club and have a girls night once or twice a week so you can all stop biting your fingernails together. This way you can give each other support while getting used to your new habit.

Take up a new hobby using your hands such as writing, playing board games, typing, or anything else that allows you to keep looking at your hands.

Once you see how pretty your fingernails can look, and how many colors of mail polish there are, you may be tempted to accessorize your outfits with different colors of nail polish. this is an inexpensive way to dress up your wardrobe while having healthier and prettier hands.

fingernail biting

I was a long time nail biter, and I used most of the stuff/methods listed above. Not of that worked, so I got myself a thin, clear, soft mouthpiece to cover my lower teeth. Then I insert the mouthpiece whenever I get the urge to bite my nails. Can't bite, can't bite. nailbitestopper

get yourself a thin, clear mouthpiece at nailbitestopper.com that will prevent the bite when you get the urge.
