How to Unblock a Toilet Without a Plunger

Oh no the toilet is blocked! And worse of all you don't have a plunger. Before you pick up the phone and dial a handy man, here are a few ways you can unblock your toilet using a few items you may already have in the home.

First of all, make sure nobody uses the toilet, this will only make matters worse and may make the job even yuckier to work with. Eek!.

If you have a Vileda mop...

(or any type of long heavy threaded mop) you may just be in luck!

Method One:

You will need a vileda mop and a plastic bag.
Simply put the mop inside the bag and tie the bag securely to the mop. You will want to wear rubber gloves while doing this, if you don't have any rubber gloves grab an extra plastic bag.

Now plunge the toilet a few times until the toilet empties.

Voila! Your toilet should now be unblocked! Not bad for not having a plunger.

Simply remove the plastic bag, and throw it away. If you aren't using gloves, put your hands inside the extra plastic bag and remove the bag from the mop. Pull the bag you have your hands inside in to keep the bag from dripping everywhere and toss it out.
Pat yourself on the back, you did a great job!

If you dont have a Vileda mop, you can try the method using your toilet brush or duster. Simply wrap them with the plastic bag and plunge the toilet to unblock it.

Method Two - How to unblock a toilet without a plunger:

If the first method fails, the next thing you can do is grab a coat hanger. You want to unwire it, and bend it into a curve.
Again you may want to wear gloves.

Simple push the wire up into the toilet canal and try to clear the way. Be very careful using this method, you don't want to scratch the toilet. This may take a few minutes.

You can alternatively bend the wire into a snake like shape, if the curved wire method does not work.

Method three:

If you have a toilet brush, and I'm sure that you do, simply try plunging the toilet with that until it unblocks.

Now if these methods fail, you can always goes down to a hardware store and purchase a plunger. If using a plunger doesn't work, it may be more serious. You will need to call a handyman.

Well that's all folks, I hope these methods have helped you, remember to try the first step first, before attempting anything else, and please remember to wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
