How to use duplicate content on your website
posted June 29, 2008 - 2:17amSo many things have said and discussed about the advantages and disadvantages of using duplicate content on your websites. If you are a professional writer or has been involved with article marketing, you might have read lots of articles preventing you from the direct use of PLR articles on your blogs, websites and reports. Instead, the most common advice is to rewrite them to some extent before use. This is allowed in case of PLR articles, but what about the articles from article directories, which has to be published as-is? Is it really a good idea to use duplicate content on your sites?
According to Jonathan Leger, the idea that Google does not rank sites using duplicate content is a myth. In his blog post, he claims that a site created by him, which is entirely based on duplicate content, got 2400 visitors from search engines in a month’s time. If the observation made by Jonathan Leger is true, then direct of use PLR content should not be a problem too. This also means that you can save a lot time that goes in completely rewriting all those PLR articles which you are planning to use on your site.
But you should remember one important thing before you go ahead and load your site with lots of duplicate content. People visiting your site will eventually figure out that your content is not original and will loose interest in visiting your site again. Your current visitors will stop recommending your site to others. Believe it or not, but this is actually a huge loss to your site. So the conclusion here is that, search engines may not punish you for use of duplicate content, but your visitors will definitely punish you. However, there is one simple solution that will allow you to use duplicate content on your site and people will still like it.
Use of news is the simplest way of adding fresh and unique content to your site. Simply look out for some latest happenings around the topic of your site. For example, if your site is about laptops, and if you notice that prices of laptops are increasing in your local market, then you can write it as news and put it on your site. Similarly, if there is one new model in the market, then you can write it as news too. Use of content from PLR membership sites and article directories will help you to add relevant content quickly and use of fresh news will make sure that you will not loose returning visitors.
Jonathan Leger has really made a good observation around the use of duplicate content. But his observations are based on visitors he is getting from search engines. Adding regular news to your site will make sure that your site will have returning visitors too. In this way you will be able to make your site rich in content without loosing anything.
