Huge Panaorama Image of the Milky Way Galaxy Photographed from Earth

A physicist has created a panorama image of our galaxy, the Milky Way Galaxy, from over 3000 individual photographs of the night sky taken from "dark sky" locations all over the world. This physicist, who is also a professor at Central Michigan University, then spent hundreds of hours using a computer to fit the images together, accounting for differing amounts of background light.

The resulting image shows stars in this galaxy that are "1000 times fainter than the human eye can see", in high resolution, in a way that would not be possible to view from any single spot on earth.
