Human Fat Cells Not Created Equally: Brown versus White

For millions of obese and overweight Americans new hope for weight loss may be on the horizon. Surprise, there's brown fat in your body and that's a BIG deal. There are 2 primary types of fat cells white and brown. Obese individuals are familiar with the white fat cells. Brown fat cells are completely different in that they stimulate metabolism, burns calories and promote weight loss. Previously it was believed that brown fat occurred mostly in children and babies but not so. According to medical researchers focus will now be placed on trying to stimulate the growth of brown fat in the human body to facilitate weight and blood sugar control. Ideally a process could be developed to convert unhealthy white fat cells into energy burning brown fat cells. Have a look at this fascinating study published today in the New England Journal of Medicine.
