As a dental student, my first paediatric patient was a girl about ten years old. Happy that I would not have to start with toddlers, as they can be quite difficult, I called her in and seated her in the chair. Since she was comfortable, I proceeded to get my instruments. However, when I returned, I was surprised to find the chair empty! The girl along with her mother had vanished and I never saw them again!
