During a viva conducted for promotions to senior ranks in the Navy, a sailor was asked, “What will happen to an AC motor if it is given a DC supply?”
The sailor remained silent and seemed perplexed, so to simplify the question, the officer said, “What will happen to a fan if it is given a DC supply, will it work or not?”
The sailor thought deeply for a few minutes and still unsure replied, “It will work, but you won’t really enjoy it!”
