I can predict the subject of Xombytes and Xomblurbs even before they are posted!

Well, at least most of them. Aside from the copycat, lets-see-what-everyone-else-is-making-money-from type of submissions, there is an easy way for me to find what many people will post here.

Curious? It's called Google Trends, which is a tool that tells people the hot Google search topics for the past hour. You can find the link here: http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends. If you look at it and look at what gets posted, there is a strong correlation.

I am not posting the link to encourage that anybody use those topics to make more posts here. Remember, those are not realtime updates and represent past searches, so anything posted based on what is found there has already passed its prime.

The way to get good original content that will draw clicks is to read, read, read numerous news articles and stories to find a common theme. Since almost everybody gets their news from the Internet (or at least news networks posting on the Internet), they will be searching for the common theme. The strategy should be to anticipate what will be newsworthy and, therefore, the search BEFORE the searches begin. If you put up Xomblurbs and -bytes AFTER the searches have begun, you will invariably have your submission lost in the noise.

Once you are on the leading edge of the news, you can write quality longer posts on the subject that search engines LOVE. If we want Xomba to be a place people come for the news, we need to put the NEW back in NEWS.

Using Trends With Charts

Using Goolge trends with charts can be helpful sometimes and is much better method to use than simply going hammer and tongs at the number one listed trend. Agree fully with jdubhub, when he points out that being imaginative and original in writing is the way to go, if you want to go all the way. Kukku.

with dialup blurbs are easier when time is limited

without access to accounts during the day i am limited to dialup at night during the week. the limited time means posting original material has to wait till the weekend...at least until dsl arrives or my net access can read what's written by hand.

Spending Money

I usually go to Drudge Report for news, and I admit that I'm first in line to jump on the Google bandwagon. I like spending the money :-)

News

If I'm looking for a particular news story, I go straight to CNN, NYTimes, etc, or a news site in the area where the story is taking place (like BBC for Europe, Dawn for Pakistan, etc.) Other ways to find news: news.google.com, though you probably won't find the absolute breaking news there, because Google crawls the Web and pulls up stories from news sites, which takes some time. You can also set up a home page and choose the types of news headlines you want on it (world news, business, politics, sports, technology, movies, etc.). I have one on MyYahoo and one on iGoogle.

Google trends??!!!

Wow, this is interesting. I didn't even know about google trends. I just usually go to google's search bar and type top news and I get the latest breaking news. I did this on two different days so far, but I am getting bored of doing it. I like writing my own articles, but at the same time having the xomblurbs on the side is a good thing. I want more traffic to my articles and I want both original articles and breaking news. So I guess I'll keep doing both...if I don't get tired from doing them :). Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to avoid google trends and get my news from the newspaper I read almost every day or online from the most up to date news.

Two weeks later and nothing has changed...

I see the same old same old in way of submissions here. Too predictable. That's okay, because the real money is made in original submissions and that leaves more for me. :p
