I Have No Tolerance For Stupid People...

I know it seems a little harsh, but it's true. I have zero tolerance for stupid people. I've laughed myself sick watching Bill Engvall as he talked about handing stupid people their signs, but at the same time, it couldn't be more of a serious subject for me! I can't stand stupid people. As the years of my life go by, I notice more and more than common sense...isn't so common.

When I was a kid, I remember learning from special workbooks that weren't just about reading comprehension, but about developing critical thinking skills. I haven't been involved in New York City's educational system for quite some time, but it's my guess that learning how to think is not something people take seriously anymore. I remember my mother telling me to 'wake up' and to 'open your eyes'. I spent my entire life working towards being an articulate, intelligent woman who thinks, and who sees the world around her for what it is. I consider myself that, and I consider myself a woman with a good heart, but my frustrations towards the people I come in contact with on a daily basis are growing quickly.

For the past four years, I've worked for a major wireless company. I'm a retail sales representative, and I deal with people for a living. Each and every day, I'm astonished to see the deterioration of my peers, my elders...my neighborhood! The store in which I work is in the neighborhood where I live, and maybe stupid is a harsh word to use, but the level of ignorance and lack of common sense is sickening! When you see people staring at a payment kiosk blankly, when the screen clearly reads to 'TOUCH SCREEN TO START' -- let's just say it frays your nerves. On more than one occasion, I've wanted to pull out my hair because a customer has come in to our CORPORATE store wanting to pay their electric bill, or their cable bill, then cursing me out when they find out they can't do that. It saddens and angers me to know that this is the world I live in, with no chance of escape.

I'll admit, I've had my moments. I've let my senses leave me and I've done some silly things. But for the most part I walk with my eyes open, and I've taught myself to see past the end of my nose. I take pride in thinking and acting for myself, and needing little to no assistance in doing less than challenging tasks...like operating a payment kiosk that comes with a step by step tutorial. The question I pose is, if I have spent my life working to not depend on people to think for me, why can't other people do this yet? Why do I have to struggle to carry myself and THEM, while they whistle their way through life, eyes closed and heads up their proverbial hind parts? What happened to survival of the fittest; natural selection? When did I sign a contract to humor the dumb and ignorant?!

They say ignorance is bliss. Sometimes I wish I were a moron.

Unfortunately, you signed

Unfortunately, you signed that contract to humor the dumb and ignorant when you signed up for a retail job. I've got 7 years retail experience, I feel your pain. But consider this: An electronic payment kiosk?!?! How about customer service!! I'd act like I didn't know how to use it out of spite, to be honest. I'm sick of disinterested employees standing there, not saying a word, half the time talking on their stupid cell phones, assuming I know the drill and can help myself. I'm not saying this is you, and it most likely isn't, but it pisses me off. But yeah, we should have stupid people season and hunt them with tasers.
