I Think I Know What I'm Going to Be When I Grow Up
posted July 6, 2008 - 10:40pmOK, I've finally narrowed it down to three careers that I would like to pursue but I am waiting until my last kid gets out of the house and in to college.
There are some critics who might say why wait until the kids are gone? I'll tell you why...fatigue! When I go for my next three careers, I want to be able to give it my all, not give it my all in between track practice, football games and sleepovers.
I do have a job now that I really like and I've learned a lot about Engineering along the way. But I really enjoy learning and trying new and different ideas.
So why not make a list? Even if they do not come to fruition, I have a list of hobbies I can pursue...after work hours, that is.
3. National Geographic (Freelance) Photographer: I want to be the chick out in the rain forest with really cool sunglasses and a stylish multi-pocketed jacket taking rare shots of a previously undiscovered frog...or butterfly.
2. A Barista: But I haven't narrowed it down to where in the world I will serve my organic, free-trade, decadent coffee blends. Perhaps in Paris? Italy? The Mediterranean? Hmmm. And what about the coffee shop name? How about "Mia Cuppa"? It is a guilty pleasure of mine. Bring on the bad news about caffeine and its restrictive effects on blood vessels, I don't care!
1. Tour Guide: Preferably at the Taj Mahal in India but I would be willing to go anywhere. I have wanderlust. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world and I just can't get enough of it. Yes, I will leave a perfectly good job to take a three month African tour, no problem. I have learned more from traveling than I ever have in any classroom.
Is it possible to blend all three? Let's see, while I'm conducting a popular tour of the Taj Mahal, I take a breathtaking shot of a sunset or sunrise or lightning storm overhead and it makes the front page of National Geographic. My newfound notoriety makes my coffee shops popular so I now must travel the world ensuring that my business is running smoothly. Darn!
And if this happens (in about eight years or so from now) you're all invited for free coffee!
