I thought The Dark Knight was...

At the very least Batman: The Dark Knight proved to be the best comic book movie and a contender for best picture of the year.
However, at the most it should be the last Batman movie ever made. Not just that, but Heath should win best supporting actor(The Academy does not award players for movies like these). Matter a fact, all comic book movies in production should just stop until they promise to deliver even a speck of what Nolan did with the Dark Knight.
At 12:30, early Friday morning I realized that there was no going back. Jack Nicholason's Joker became a thing of history and we all realized how tragic Heath Ledger's death truly was. With a deep breath I could put my fears at ease that Nolan picked the wrong actor to play Joker.
You must understand that this movie has one actor in it and that's Ledger. Nothing else matters. Bale plays a weak Batman in my eyes and doesn't quite do as well as he did with Batman Begins. He nails Bruce Wayne, but he's no Downey Jr./Ironman. Freeman and Caine's performance is adequate and surprisingly Eckhart as Dent is a shining gem.
Like I said though, Ledger as the Joker overshadows everything in this movie. Heath could have been the greatest actor of my generation. We were robbed of our Brando.
Nolan chose a darker Joker (Lovers and Madmen) (Killing Joke) with a good dose of maniac. This Joker my friends, is a modern realistic Lucifer. Only caring to spread chaos all while watching the world burn to the ground.
The Dark Knight is truly frightening and intense. We were all on our edge of our seats the last hour of the movie. Nolan plays no games with our emotion. After watching a scene where Joker performs a "magic trick" you'll know where he stands. Don't take the kids this movie should be R.
Very little CGI is used and the use of real sets puts a layer of gritty realism in front of your eyes.
My complaints are few: tighter pacing, Bale might not be the Batman that I wanted, cut the scene with the scarecrow.
Eckhart as Harvey Dent made for a remarkable performance. If I say anything else I'll end up revealing to much though. Unfortunately, he to falls in Ledger's shadow.
This morning I'm left with one question. Should I even watch another comic book movie or any movie that portrays an evil villain? What's the point?
Go now and watch it, but be warned it'll change your perception of the genre.
