I've Found Tom Waits!

I've Found Tom Waits!

Music is awesome; - all kinds of music, all kinds of awesome. My taste in it ranges from classical to heavy metal, from folk to Spanish guitar, from '60s classics to variations of electronic. Whatever hits a nerve seems to qualify for a place in my collection. I've no idea what I would do without music - I can't seem to function without it.

The problem comes, however, when I realise that I've listened to everything in my collection at least a million times over; so, I am constantly on the look out for new artists and new songs but this is usually like searching for a needle in a noisy, irritating haystack. Every so often, the urge to listen to something new overpowers me and I have to go hunting.

This task is kinda difficult - it's like looking for something but having no idea what. Once in a while, I'm lucky enough to stumble across something that is just right. This very thing happened last night; I was moseying around YouTube when, somehow, I came across a video of somebody's college art project. It was a very striking piece of animation; -

Suddenly my new-music-radar kicked in and alerted me to fact that it had found a song worthy of adding to my collection. The singer had a deep grainy voice and I imagined a large, old black dude that had sang the blues in a smoky, noire bar at some point in his life. I quickly used trusty ol' Google to find out the identity of this mysterious songbird and I came up with the name of Tom Waits.

That's one classy dude. That's one classy dude.

So, not entirely what I had imagined but boy, does this guy sing. With my curiosity well invoked, I searched further in the hopes that his other sings were just as good and I wasn’t disappointed; -

I soon discovered that this dude is an actor too, having played along side Meryl Streep and Jack Nicolson in Iron weed as well Iggy Pop in Coffee & Cigarettes. Now, I love movies too and this is a great scene; -

I love finding new music and thought I'd just share what I'd found in case anyone else out there is in the same boat when it comes to finding new tunes but have no idea what they're lookin' for. ^_^

Do you guys know how crushed I was?

After having a dream about Tom Waits last night, I decided to check out his tour dates to see if there's anything coming soon........I just found out he died last year :'( I was crushed.........until I realised that I'd read the article wrong!! Twas a friend of Tom's that died.....not that that's a great thing but it means I still have a chance to see the great man live. If anyone finds anything about a new tour, please let me know :) And here's another video/song:

The Ghost of Saturday Night

Here are parts of one that always haunt me. He is an incredible poet: "And a solitary sailor Who spends the facts of his life Like small change on strangers".... "And the early dawn cracks out a carpet of diamonds Across a cash crop car lot filled with twighlight Coupe Devilles Leaving the town in the keeping Of the one who is sweeping Up the ghosts of saturday night"

Love Him

He's one of my favorite artist. Got lucky enough to catch him on his last tour. If you get the chance to see him live you should do it.

"what's he building in there?"

Just watch it - very good, kinda creepy! I love how he's able to strike a nerve, he definitely is creative. Can't believe it took me this long to discover him :)

Tom Waits

I remember when I first discovered him. He is one of the most creative artists out there. My favorite right now is "what's he building in there?"
