I Wonder if Anyone Chose to Stop & Smell the Flowers Rather than Let This Ruin their Lives

I Wonder if Anyone Chose to Stop & Smell the Flowers Rather than Let This Ruin their Lives

Nothing can ruin our lives unless we allow it to ruin our lives. We have the freedom to look at catastrophes positively or negatively. If we look at things negatively, then we just end up upset. If we choose to look at things positively, then we don't let this get upset and we actually our healthier for it. I think that's what God wants for us to do. I wonder how many New Yorkers decided to take this rain and decide to relax, instead of holding up the stereotype of a New York minute, gotta have it now, on the run mentality. Of course, I wasn't in New York when this happened. I just hope that, if it were me, I would decide to take the opportunity to stop and smell the roses.

No, I Agree

I was just trying to comment on how it is hard to be able to do much about things beyond our control. I definitely understand what you're saying. I am trying to suggest that people should not be too hard on themselves in trying times, and roll with the punches (so to speak). I did not, by any means, mean to come across as judgemental of how anyone would take the mess that's come down in New York. I am hoping that they can have hope. That's basically what I am saying. If we stew around in being overwhelmed, we'll continue to be overwhelmed. If we can breathe, and let something larger than ourselves take over then we can move on and make it out of the disasters. My automatic response to the news is how this has haulted a lot of progress in jobs and production of many times. If we zoom out on the camera lens there might be more to the picture than the hub of production - - anywhere that we're at: Texas OR New York.

Smelling the flowers

I'm puzzled by your premise... you make it sound like this storm was a snow day that let kids out of school. In fact it was a torrential rain that included a tornado touch-down in Brooklyn and destroyed many homes, flooded many others, disabled most forms of transit, and caused many people to spend hours trying to get to work, all throughout the tri-state area. Sure, if a person's boss told them to stay home instead of trying to get to work, they'd have the day off work (but then they'd be at home trying to salvage their possessions from the water, not kicking back and relaxing). Though there's always some truth in stereotypes, the New York City stereotypes you hear aren't any more true than the many stereotypes heard about Texans. Speaking of Texans, I don't recall hearing many stories of people there "stopping to smell the flowers" when a tornado or flood came ripping through their homes...
