The Idiocy of Republican Attacks on ACORN

ACORN. I'll wager any Republican here and see if any one can tell me right now what the acronym means. Know what it means? Didn't think so.

That's just it. Republican politicians, conservative talking heads, conservative bloggers, and just about every card-carrying member of the Republican party is hysterically wailing and beating their collective breasts about how a highly-organized group of Democrats, who are working within local communities nationwide to ensure that poor minorities have a chance to vote, are trying to STEAL the election from God Himself their guy, John McCain. It doesn't matter that they know nothing about the organization or that the charges are provably false. The organization is made up mostly of non-white people who register poor people, who end up voting Democratic, and that's good enough for them. ACORN is EVIL. End of story.

For those of us with a modicum of critical thinking, we would understand that voter registration CARD filled out incorrectly (or falsely) is not the same thing as a living, breathing human being walking into the polling place and VOTING for someone.

Nope, that's too much for many of the mindless automatons that believe in McCain Über Alles. Their chain-of-thought barely gets past "black people are to be feared, Barack Obama is black, therefore we must fear Barack Obama." Because, that's what this really boils down to: fear. Ask conservative nut job talk show host Michael Savage about what might happen if Barack Obama is elected:

Savage: "Kenya is going to move to America if Barack Hussein Obama wins"

The same people who screech hysterically about Barack Obama and ACORN are the same people who eat up what Savage poops out and ask for seconds.

If the Republicans are so scared about 1.3 million new Democratic voters, then why are they not knocking on doors and collecting new voter registration cards for their beloved political party? "What, you mean get off our couch right now? OMG, The O'Reilly Factor is on! I can't miss the "news"!"

Or maybe this country is tired of the past eight years of lies and stealing. It looks like some people are DOING while Republicans are standing around TALKING. Talk doesn't put food on the table or a roof over the head of a poor person. Not that the people whining about ACORN actually care about poor people.

By the way, ACORN is the Association of Communities Organized for Reform Now. You owe me a dollar.

I think the repeated

I think the repeated convictions of the employees and the fines paid by ACORN speak for themselves. Those facts are not a result of the "conservative blogosphere." Those are the result of fraudulent activities by the employees and ACORN. How many different investigations and convictions are needed before it's no longer considered "conservative bias" to point them out? And how many socialist and socialist-funded organizations need to support ACORN before we can say that ACORN is a left-wing organization that has been proven to promote socialist policies? If you want to "follow the money," then you need to look at the people who have been funding ACORN - as well as the agenda of those donors. *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

Rule #1: Follow the Money

That's the most basic rule of anything in the political world and, arguably, life. Follow the money, which is what I did. What ACORN is alleged to have done has been blown out of proportion by the same people who stand to gain the most from a McCain presidency. I find that curious because I don't believe in coincidence. Whatever ACORN did or did not do will be investigated in due course, which is being aided by ACORN itself, as I've said repeatedly. If "innocent until proven guilty" is still the standard of American justice, then everything that has been said about them in the conservative blogosphere and mainstream media (but, I repeat myself) should be taken only with the proverbial grain of salt. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

So, your research consisted

So, your research consisted of trying to refute the articles because of who wrote them and who they are connected to? If you read the facts of the articles - not the opinions derived from them - you will see an obvious pattern of ACORN's hypocritical positions and fraudulent practices. It doesn't matter whether or not the top-level administration of the group is in on the fraud - they're practices promote fraudulent activity and their public policies are largely anti-capitalist. The voter registration fraud is widespread. ACORN and ACORN employees are being investigated for it in about 14 states. Many have already resulted in fines and felony convictions, including a settlement in the largest case of voter fraud in Washington State history. It isn't simply a matter of a few bad apples. The entire organization needs to be investigated and consequently shut down until they can demonstrate a willingness to comply with the law and then in fact do it. *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

Okay, I checked out your links and did some digging

The ACORN Wiki article is currently protected from updates because of "disputes" as to the information. Because Wikipedia is open-source and because of the disputes, I question the article's veracity for now. As for ACORN's history from the discoverthenetworks.org page, I discovered that that website is affiliated with FrontPageMag and David Horowitz. They are affiliated with the conservative Scaife Foundation (SOURCE), which also funds and uses as political fronts: Quote: American Enterprise Institute Atlas Economic Research Foundation David Horowitz Freedom Center Federalist Society Foundation for Economic Education Free Congress Foundation (headed by Paul Weyrich) Freedom House GOPAC (headed by Newt Gingrich) Independent Women's Forum Intercollegiate Studies Institute (which operates the Collegiate Network) Judicial Watch Landmark Legal Foundation Media Research Center (headed by Brent Bozell) Pacific Legal Foundation Pittsburgh World Affairs Council Reason Foundation Given what I understand about the Scaife Foundation and these other organizations, none of which has anything to do with Democratic or Liberal causes, I question whether "discoverthenetworks.org" is in a position to neutrally describe the history of anything. As for EPI, the "Employment Policies Institute", there is another troubling connection. According to Sourcewatch: Quote:The Employment Policies Institute (EPI) is one of several front groups created by Berman & Co., a Washington, DC public affairs firm owned by Rick Berman, who lobbies for the restaurant, hotel, alcoholic beverage and tobacco industries. EPI has has been widely quoted in news stories regarding minimum wage issues, and although a few of those stories have correctly described it as a "think tank financed by business," most stories fail to provide any identification that would enable readers to identify the vested interests behind its pronouncements. Instead, it is usually described exactly the way it describes itself, as a "non-profit research organization dedicated to studying public policy issues surrounding employment growth" that "focuses on issues that affect entry-level employment." In reality, EPI's mission is to keep the minimum wage low so Berman's clients can continue to pay their workers as little as possible. Since ACORN supports the very people who are working for those companies paying EPI's bills, there is at least a conflict-of-interest between Rick Berman and what he purports as factual in the report. Look, I'm not defending their business model, which certainly appears to need an upgrade or two, but much of the conservative mainstream media bias toward the group seems to be a preemptive strike in case Obama walks away with this election next month, which the Right can use to delegitimize his presidency. I will also reiterate that having someone fill out a voter registration form with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck is not the same as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck showing up on election day and voting. Yes, there are some ACORN workers who listed false names on the cards, even ACORN has admitted this and has turned over the evidence to police without question, but that doesn't mean that everything that is being said about ACORN's community programs in the MSM is true or even accurate. Blaming this group for the housing and economic crisis facing everybody in our country is just disingenuous on the part of the conservative blogging and talking head community. Here is another article that counters what was written in the Las Vegas article you linked: ACORN Calls Police Raid of Las Vegas Office a Political "Stunt" As the article alleges, ACORN officials had been working with the Nevada government for months to clear up known and suspected fraudulent registrations. ACORN cooperated with election officials and even voluntarily gave them evidence that could be used to prosecute those who fraudulently submitted the forms. That doesn't sound like a group that is trying to defraud the process by covering up wrongdoing by any of its members. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

I would also like

I would also like everyone's vote to be counted...once each. Although I do disagree with you about everyone having a "right" to vote for president. There isn't a "right" to vote for president and I believe you're already aware that I don't think everyone ought to be voting. But that's another debate for another time. *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

I'll check it out in the morning--thanks for the links!

I'm not defending the organization per se, but I am defending the right of everybody to have a vote in this country and for those votes to be counted. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Really? Is this really what

Really? Is this really what you think ACORN is all about? I don't believe you've been paying attention, so I'll leave you some reading assignments. We'll start with a little background information - and I'll even give you the Wikipedia entry for ACORN: ACORN according to Wikipedia ACORN History Here's a study that was released in 2004 by the Employment Policies Institute (EPI): EPI: The Real ACORN This gives you a little insight as to what's plaguing the association today: ACORN Cracks Wide Open And here's a couple recent headlines: ACORN Fraud Investigations in Ohio Las Vegas ACORN Office Raided Now this is just to get you started. I'm sure once you read some of these you'll be able to do some Google searches of your own. Then you'll realize that ACORN isn't just trying "to ensure that poor minorities have a chance to vote". I am actually surprised that you would try to defend such an organization. I don't care which party they support - there is no place in our society for a group like this. While you try to paint "Republicans" as the uninformed crowd that knows nothing about ACORN, you sure do come across as blatantly uninformed yourself. *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.
