Illegal Aliens, Secure Borders, Deportation, Guest-Workers, & Amnesty

Once again the debate about illegal immigration has flared up because of an inept Congress. The only difference this time is that Democrats are in charge. A new “comprehensive” bill is being proposed that, so far, has large support from both parties and the President. However, most of the citizens of the country are being ignored by their elected representatives. How do we, the public, really feel about immigration?

Let’s explore some of these problems point by point in question form. Here is a list of questions to ask yourselves:

  1. Do you support legal immigration to the United States?
  2. Are you for or against a border fence? And are you for or against patrolling this fence to keep illegal aliens from entering this country?
  3. Do you think illegal aliens ought to be deported when they are discovered by local, state, or federal agents or agencies?
  4. Do you think employers who illegally hire illegal aliens ought to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law?
  5. Do you support the idea of illegal aliens being able to have access to social programs designed to benefit United States citizens?
  6. Do you think a child that is born in the United States by an illegal alien ought to be a U.S. citizen? And do you think the child and its parents and siblings should be able to stay simply because of that fact?
  7. Do you support a guest-worker program?
  8. Are you in favor of imposing a fine against illegal aliens and granting them legal status, thus allowing them to remain here in the U.S. to work and collect social benefits?
  9. Do you support amnesty? Amnesty, as defined for this article, is anything other than the punishment for illegally entering this country – which is deportation.
  10. Do you think Congress should uphold previously passed laws about illegal immigration and secure our borders before they pass any new legislation?

These are serious questions that need to be seriously answered, not only by the American public, but by our politicians as well. I would be willing to bet that most people who answer these questions will realize just how much they are being ignored by their representatives in Washington. The American public has spoken out time and again about illegal immigration. We want secured borders, we want enforcement against employers, we want deportation of these criminals, and we certainly do not want to deal with this repeatedly in the future.

You cannot have national security if you do not know who is entering this country through its porous borders. You cannot have fair wages or maintain fair business ethics if you allow illegal employment to artificially reduce wages and overhead. You cannot expect legal immigrants to be grateful to wait several years to gain access to our country if you let illegal aliens come and go as they please, and then offer them a path to citizenship. You cannot expect citizens of this country to believe new laws will be upheld if the old ones are blatantly ignored. And you cannot expect illegal aliens to assimilate into our culture if they either don’t want to live here, or if they are not subject to the process that encourages them to assimilate, which is done through the years of waiting during legal immigration.

Think about the questions and decide whether or not you are prepared to allow Congress to grant legal status to over 12 million people who have already broken at least one law, and quite possibly many others, like fraud and identity theft. Leave your comments on this post and see just how many people are in agreement on the various issues. Then decide if your representatives are fit for their position as an elected official working for the people.
