Immigration, Discrimination and Prejudice For Dummies

Immigrants to the U.S. who speak English do not have it easy, despite what some may think. Having migrated to the U.S. almost nine years ago, there are still things that I see as being potentially significant barriers for immigrants, whereas others would not particularly give them a second thought.

A couple of years ago,  I went to work for awhile at a restaurant, and recall passing comment about the money being all the same color; as some of you will know, in Australia, a handful of paper money looks like a peacock's tail being all different colors.

What I was about to encounter was a classic case of discrimination, whether my employer realized she was doing it or not. Being prejudice is one thing, most people are for reasons they don’t even understand, however, discrimination is a more serious problem, and anyone is capable of doing it without much effort.
