The Importance of Bastille Day in French History

The importance of this holiday is in understanding where they were at, and how far they have come since the corrupt monarchy rule of the beginning of their turmoil for the common folks and the anger that would revoke the people into battle against their form of government. The year was 1788, it was a time when the monarchy ruled and a corrupt aristocracy took advantage of the common people by taxing them to a breaking point. Furthermore, would end up causing alarm for the first and second estates by the Kings decision to tax also. In so deciding, it outraged the higher classes that did not think they should have to pay taxes.

Irresponsibility

The King and Queen's over-indulgence and lack of compassion, or consideration for the people of France brought about complicated issues that the people wanted addressed. King Louis XV1 could not handle or properly address the issues to ease the turmoil of the growing concerns of the mass; due to his unstable mind frame and other problems he had at the time. This caused him to fail his people.
Instead of the king being there for his country by helping his people and by trying to bring down the countries debts, he and his queen lavished themselves with the best of everything at the expense of France!

Rioting Erupts

The growing concerns of the people surmounted and turned to rage with the classes of estates and before long a riot would brake out; which would bring down the Bastille Prison in a bloody bath.

Near 1,000 people rioted through the streets. They figured that the prison had barrels of gunpowder and for symbolism reasons alone to show by their actions the downfall of the old rule over the people by bring down the monarchy for the much needed fresh start for a new beginning that France so needed, by freeing the seven prisoners in the Bastille Prison.

This all took place in the summertime of July 14, 1789; that later would be the chosen month and day to celebrate the holiday because of the date of liberation from the corrupt higher Archy rule.

The Revolution

The French Revolution brought on the changes the country needed for their "better tomorrows," for all the people; the motto being Liberty, Equality and Fraternity for the wonderful new start that would lead to a style of democracy for France's future.
