The Importance of Life Insurance
posted November 3, 2009 - 11:30amMost people if you asked them would tell you that life insurance is very important, maybe even a necessity. But many out there do not believe life insurance is needed. In some cases this may be true, but for morethan not, this can be the most important insurance policy you ever buy. Whenever you pass away, you also pass on debt. When you owe a company or individual money, they are not very forgiving. Now your spouse or children have the burden of paying your funeral costs, which average around 10000 dollars, and the debt you left behind, such as a mortgage, car payment, hospital bills, etc. Without the support of a good life insurance policy, these mounting bills can end up swallowing your family whole, and they could lose everything. Now if you live up in the mountains, bury your own in the family grave, and hunt for your own food, then you will be ok without a life insurance policy. Or maybe you are kin to Warren Buffett or Bill Gates. I would hope those two gentlemen do not pass with debt being the two richest men in the world. But this is not the case in most situations. Another thing I have heard is social security will cover you. Well social security is great to keep you on your feet after you retire, but when you pass away, you only receive a 255 dollar benefit to pay for funeral costs. If your children are above the age of 18, they get nothing. In this case, having no life insurance can be a life-changing experience. I have heard others say that life insurance is too expensive, and this can definitely be true if you decide to purchase your policy when you are 90 years old. I cannot stress the importance of buying life insurance at the earliest age possible, even if you have a policy through work. When you retire, that policy is gone and now you will be paying a much higher premium. Please do some investigation and decide what coverage is right for you, what you can afford, and do this as early as possible to save money. My goal was to lock into a policy that would cover my mortgage, car payments, and all other bills, leaving my wife and child with money to spare for college, etc. The earlier you start, the more affordable life insurance can be. Don't wait!!!!
