India at the Games
posted August 21, 2008 - 2:30am Wrestler Sushil Kumar made India proud by winning a bronze by defeating his opponant from Kazakistan on the 12th day of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It is the second individual medal for India after Abhinav Bindra won a gold. It was Abhinav who gave India a first ever individual gold
in the 112 year olympics history.
In 1952, it was Khashaba Jadhav who had won a bronze in wrestling. And since then it was a long wait of almost 56 years before another bronze came India's way.
There was yet another day to bask in glory for India. The other reason being boxer Jogindar reaching the semi-finals. And keeping the hopes of yet another medal alive.
But the day surely belonged to Sushil Kumar who was very happy with his performance. And rightly so. An Olympic medal is no child's play. Every medal matters, be it even a bronze. But Sushil Kumar's father had some other dreams - higher than his son's. Though they were not fulfilled, Sushil didn't disappoint all of us either. While giving his statement on his son's success he said all were confident of a gold. But nevertheless they will take the bronze that have come their way.
