Interactive Map of US Troop Concentrations Worldwide

Do you ever wonder where all the overseas US troops are deployed? Wonder no more, use the slider at the base of the map to view troop strength over time from 1950 to 2007.

Very interesting...

@lmorovan: Please show me where "empire" appeared in...

Please show me where the word "empire" appeared in either the OP or in the linked article. It didn't which means you are not telling the truth and my comment was appropriate. The trouble with what you and "Free SEO Services" claimed is that you are grossly undercutting the actual number of troops and permanent bases there are in other countries. I wrote this Xombyte (http://www.xomba.com/do_you_like_people_telling_you_what_to_do) a few days ago that addressed the 1000+ military bases worldwide and the fact--not opinion--that our government's stationing of troops in many countries is not just to give them gardening tips. You are also grossly undercutting the effect that our government's military spending has on both our economy and toward the overall peace in the whole world. Our government is responsible for 46% of ALL military expenditures in the world with Britain, France, China, Japan, and others in second place with 4%-5%. For a country with only 5% of the total world's population, that should be troubling. What should also be most telling that our government has long ago transitioned from republic to empire is the fact that you want our military in every country around the world, whether the locals want us there or not, so our negatively-influenced warmonger government can control everything. Not only is this morally repugnant, it is unconstitutional. Then, again, you are a die-hard supporter of the War Party and a little genocide doesn't matter to you, in spite of your claims of religious piety. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

coelacanth6, interesting take

Incidentally, the same people who criticize and complain against the US bringing in the resources to maintain a high standard of living are the first to complain when the government takes measures to reduce our dependency on foreign resources, which turns out to reduce a standard of living. Not that I agree with all the measures our government takes, but outsourcing the manufacture of the goods Americans consume to other countries where quality control is deficient and products are sub standard, all to lower the price of goods and make Americans "happier" is a bad move and I resent it. Our government makes us more and more dependent on foreign goods that can very well be manufactured here. But the corruption and greed causes major problems home. The presence of roughly 12 million illegal aliens who works in inhumane conditions and get paid well under the minimum wages, while burdening our economy with hundreds of billions of dollars for social services that they are not entitled to, is a move that I will never agree or approve. But, other than expressing my discontent, there is not much I can do to fix the problem. As a note to your comment: we pay for the goods we bring home from abroad. We don't get them for free. The United States' Empire of Consumption

The United State's overseas military presence is to maintain the empire of consumption where the US, while only representing 5 percent of the world's population, disproportionately consumes close to 25% of all resources (most importantly, petroleum). This "empire" was created and is maintained so the US can exploit more of the world's wealth than they are entitled to. These will be very interesting times as China and India, among others, grow in strength and wealth and demand their rightful shares...

Don't underestimate..

Our Marines are some tough hombres and the Diplomatic Attaches and "Admin" folks are pretty smart and resourceful. They're just waiting for the word 'Go' to take down Moscow and Beijing...I may have said too much..

My comment was on the original post

And I am quite concerned about the countries that have no American troops on their soil, especially if we have an embassy, consulate or other interests there. As a note: we have invaded China with 64 troops and Russia with 72 troops. So, both China and Russia are part of the American empire. Embassies

Do we have a strong military presence all over the world? Yes, of course we do, but, you're counting every embassy detachment in your list. Try not to be so sensational. The media does enough of that.

So much for your being constructive, lmorovan

Your being constructive didn't even make it through a full comment. Sad. Perhaps your opinion on the matter would be bolstered if you actually provided supporting data for your contention that there are (1)any other self-identified unipolar superpowers in the world and (2)how many troops in foreign countries those other self-identified unipolar superpowers have. Unless you can come up with said supporting data, you can relegate your last comment to the never-ending string of "because I said so" ad hominem arguments. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

What a stupid argument

the great majority of the countries shown have troops in the single digits and some of double digits. If that is an empire, then some people should go back to elementary school and learn what an empire is. I hope no one thinks having a few marines protecting our embassies in the world is a sign of imperialism :) To read my posts and articles click here: http://www.xomba.com/xombyte/lmorovan

137

That's the number of countries in the world out of a U.S. State Department recognized 192 possible countries where our government has troops stationed. That is 70%. And some people don't believe we are an empire. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?
