Interview With Nan, An 'Evolving' Artist: Visit Her Online Gallery of Watercolors, Sketches and More

I came across Nan's gallery of artwork displayed on her website and saw some very nice watercolors and sketches. I particularly liked the dogs, the tiger and the Italy watercolors as well as the portraits of her grandkids.

I asked Nan a few questions about her art and this is what she told me:

Q: Nan, what was the first piece of artwork you created?

A: "My avatar," (Referring to the first picture in her 'Ladies' album), "was the very first piece of artwork and it is a collage of different items, (felt, beads, etc) not much paint except for the face.... didn't even know what watercolor could do."

Q: How did you settle on watercolor as your medium of choice?

A: "Discovered the limited palette of three primary colors through a friend and my life has not been the same since!"

Q: What other medium do you, or would you like to, work in?

A: "Did a week of a pencil sketch a day and liked that too. Who knows what's next.... there is so much more to try."

Q: Where do you get your inspiration?

A: "Because I am such a novice painter, inspiration came from just wanting to see if I could do it! Started with flowers, then tried landscapes and water, then a series of fruits and vegetables, wanted to see if I could do glass, going on to animals (pets of my friends and family). Really fell in love with the animal portraiture so decided to try people. Did my grandchildren and then my husband. I think portraiture is my favorite to paint. Camogli, Italy was from a picture I took when we were there. Boston Terrier was done of a friend's dog as a wedding present to them. My husband is the montage portraiture."
