Unfortunate but true: In 2109, when Year 8 Secondary School Students study the history of the West in the first decade of the twenty first-century, we’ll be seen as “the people in those days”. At that time, you and me and all our family and friends (save for those with right wing affiliations) will be lumped in with the madmen George W Bush, Tony Blair and Silvio Berlusconi. We’ll be spinning like roulette wheels in our graves.

The following are notes a 12 year old student might take on their school issued laptop in 2109 in a lesson introducing leaders in the West 2000-2010. He is not the brightest of students but you might be able to see why he struggles to make sense of the trio. You should be able to forgive his mistakes as he’d never heard of them before the lesson, one-hundred years in the future.

George W Bush

He was President of the United States from 2001 to 2009. He was mad. He said stupid things all the time. He did drink driving and was a pilot before he became the President. He made America invade Afghanistan in 2001 because of the horrible thing called 9/11. He made America attack and invade a country called Iraq in 2003 because a war on two fronts is advised in most books on warfare. His dad was President before him.

Tony Blair

Tony Blair was President of Britain from 1997 to 2007. Sometimes people couldn’t spell his name and spelled it like this BLIAR. He loved George W Bush and did what George told him to do. George called him Yo Tony. One day 2 million people went to see Tony and ask him not to go to war with Iraq because it would end in disaster and kill more than thousands of children. When he was at a party lots of the people there said he should not make Britain do war on Iraq also. But God told Tony to do a war on Iraq and so he did.

Silvio Berlusconi

He was President of Italy from 1994 – 2009 most of the time. He was mad. He said stupid things all the time. He owned most of Italy. He liked young people more than people of his own age when he was very old. He paid young girls to call on him. George W Bush and Tony Blair also called on him a lot and they had parties together. He did not want the war with Iraq at first but liked it after the other countries had invaded it.
