Investments on oil and gas business- informations, advice, links ( The African Continent)
posted February 11, 2009 - 1:25pmThe Oil and Gas sector is the economic driver of most economies globally. A country highly rich in black gold (crude oil) is generally perceived to be a great and rich country.
The quest for petroleum discovery is becoming more and more challenging, first to the IOC's, independents players
and
indigenous companies who have enough muscle to flex. As most companies are now going to deepwater offshore for exploration, one pertinent question that comes to mind is the profitability that these companies will have to make on the venture.
With these era of reducing oil prices (hovering between $39 - $50 for now, it takes a miracle to survive the challenge.
The African continent is one of the hottest play of hydrocarbon on the global continent. With more and more discoveries in deep offshore water, Angola,Uganda, Gabon, Algeria and Nigeria, the African continent is a force to reckon with.
The continent has witness massive investment over the years till present in this sector.
For a willing and serious investor, the African continent remains one of the vital areas of good returns.
Why:
1) In terms of cheap labour, the African continent is well known for that
2) The African continent is a place to make quick investment
3) The African continent sits atop trillion cubic feet of Gas ( Nigeria has 187 tcf of gas) and other African countries have relevant volumes of gases, no wonder, Gazprom is highly investing in the Nigerian economy. Their territorial move is a good one for any serious investor who really wants to make money.
4) The African continent is seen as an emerging market that offers high rate of returns, a good investor should focus on this.
Recently, I met a friend at KLM Club Africa. He is a dutch. He told me of his interest in setting up his business in Nigeria. Right now, he is setting up an heavy equipment company in Nigeria. He is in talks with oil service companies, engineering and construction firms and I can see that the sky cant be his limit.
With the release of 23 marginal fields to indigenous companies in 2004, the Nigerian company is aggressively encouraging entrepreneurship interest in great west Africa country. A good oil company should seize this opportunity to make research on this great offer.
A source of rich content on the affairs of oil and gas activities on the Africa continent is AFRICA OIL + GAS REPORT; the magazine is the primer of all oil and gas activities on the African continent.
