The Irresistablity of Superheros

How much do kids love superheros? The answer is a lot. My two boys are on constantly play Batman and Robin, Spiderman, Wolverine, Ironman and there are a few others. What makes superheros so attractive to kids? I remembwer growing up we played superheros as well. We invented are own too. Mine was the Cross-Eyed Kid. He crossed his eyes and a power beam shot out. I could cross my eyes really well so that character made sense for me. A friend of mine was Ash Man. He was made of ash and shot, well, ash rays at people. Seemed like a good thing at the time. I do remember that no one was allowed to play Silver Surfer. He had too many powers. I can't tell you now if that was true or not.

The funny thing about us playing superheros was that we were not allowed to have comic books. I had one stashed in the back of my closet. It was the Fantastic Four. The back cover was a promo for a Captain America comic. That is all I remember. My other memories of superheroes come from Batman reruns and Superfriends cartoons. Remember Aquaman? Oh and wait, the Wonder Woman tv show.

There is something irresistable about superheros. Something we all wish we could be. Did you want too fly or run superfast? Maybe that was it. Superheros could do the stuff we only dreamed of.
