Is Ralph Nader's Bid for Presidency Providing a Real Choice?
posted February 25, 2008 - 5:47amRalph Nader will run for president, he has announced. Is he really giving Americans for choice or will this ruin the chances (again) that the Democrats may have for return to power?
Nader has for long been well-known and well respected as being for the little guy against the giant faceless corporations. His campaign against unsafe cars, taking on the mammoth General Motors led to a greater automobile safety.
He has also done much about environmental, health and safety issues.
But is he a truly political force, or is he tilting at windmills? He has a certain amount of support, but that has only led to votes being diluted. In the 2000 elections, Al Gore would probably have won, had some votes not be diverted to Nader.
Is the same thing going to happen again, when there seems to be just that bit of a chance for the Democrats to make a comeback? His giving Americans more choice may be no more than giving an illusion of choice.
