Would a tolerance seminare help MICHAEL RICHARDS?
posted November 21, 2006 - 9:31pmIn the aftermath of hateful and Racist comments being thrown out by movies celeberities and so forth. A real question comes to my mind when dealing with the reality of real hate in the world,"Is teaching Tolerance the effective answer when dealing with hate?"
When I think of the word TOLERANCE I think of, "putting up with" or " dealing with but not always happily." By teaching a person to just deal with or put up with another person instead of accepting or appreciating that person Hate comes out when they can no longer Tolerate that person.
How many diversity work shops must this country go through until people realize that everyone bleeds red? What happened to genuine love and acceptance...or has it ever existed? I beleive hate is a choice. People choose to hate others and close minded people choose to discriminate because they hate themselves.
The bleak reality of it all is that until the world is no longer entertained by the gross hatred and put downs of other human beings there will be no moving forward with any type of peace or happiness. There is no such thing as harmony and the dog eat dog lifestyle. It takes a Stronger beign to "turn the other cheek, let bygones be bygones." Hating because you were hated against just shows the world that the only thing that has won is HATE.
Tolerance is not the answer. Charity and Love. Compassion and Forgiveness. Understanding and Empathy. These words are hardly uttered in the media junket today, but they are Virtues that few people ever think of or posess. I would dare to bet the average high school student would not be able to describe these words.
Until the tolerance teachings are replaced with core values such as love, compassion, and forgiveness, the hate will continue. Is it too late to teach empathy and charity to the world? Or will the apologies keep rolling in?
