Islamic Fascism - Are Words Too Extreme?

Recently, the White House has come out swinging against terrorism. Speeches by President Bush and his staff have accurately described modern terrorism as "Islamic fascism," to the dismay of some Muslim leaders. Some of these leaders believe that this characterization of extremists may cause a misunderstanding about the Islamic religion. According to an Associated Press story, the newly elected president of the Islamic Society of North America finds that this terminology is "unhelpful" and can make some Muslims "feel uncomfortable here."

I would think that most rational people would agree that not all Muslims are fascists and advocate for world domination. However, the terrorists that we are fighting in the war on terror are trying to topple sovereign governments and are fighting under the pretext of Islamic Law. This isn't a subjective interpretation that's open for debate. How many times do we have to hear a statement or watch a video from people like Bin Laden, who are calling for a "global jihad" and want to destroy western civilization, before we can categorize them as fascists?

The Islamic Society of North America is trying to put a stop to this new phrase while at the same time welcoming former Iranian president, Mohammad Khatami to their annual convention here in the United States. It's ridiculous that the Society would be more uncomfortable about using the word "fascist" to describe fascists than they are about terrorists hijacking the Islamic religion to use as their platform to wage war on all people who disagree with them, both Muslim and non-Muslim.

Although I feel that the Bush administration is almost five years too late with their recent phraseology, at least they have come around and accurately identified for the people what most "realists" have known for quite some time. We are not in a time where political correctness and sensitivity need to be our first priority. Things are what they are, and Muslim terrorists who are fighting to establish autocratic governments ruled by dictators with strict and severe control over economies and societies and extreme suppression of opposition, are indeed Islamic fascists.

It may be that this recent attempt to describe terrorists is part of a strategy to drum up support heading into the midterm elections. It doesn't matter to me, as long as the word is getting out and everyone's on the same page. Some people may say that it's a little too late. I've always believed that if you're fighting on the side of good and for the greatest republic that has ever existed, it's better to show up late than not at all.

fascism

I enjoyed the article. If the word "fascist" applies to "militaristic expansionism", I fail to see how it does not then apply to the U.S., British, Coallition invasion of iraq. Under the guiseof bringing Democratization and freedom to this ancient culture, we have installed a "puppet government, with whom we can easily negotiate. Many think Kuwait which we took for our uses is an ancient city. it is not. It is an American/British oil conglomerate. They have a "constitution" so our dmination isn't obvious. All of this is mlitaristic expansioism, on the part of one man, George Bush, who may bethe twenty-first centuries predominant "war monger"

Islam must engineer an internal change for it to survive.

Islam must change, or it must be excised. As is, Islam is a bad meme. It is about death, not life. Civilizations, societies, economies, the entire future of humanity is diseased by this infection. It is no less dangerous than a malignant cancer, and it is malignant. It will kill the host unless drastic measures are undertaken. I would like to see it changed from within. Yet, I can not offer the slightest hope that it will or even CAN be changed. I can't change it. You can't change it either, probably. It is fatally flawed. I am not Muslim (nor will I ever be) and I do not know of any Muslim who can change it. The logic of this leads to only one place, political correctness and sensitivity aside. That place is the excision. If Islam cannot be changed from within -- or will not be changed -- the flaw must be removed by the rest of the species. I have hope that a way to change can be rapidly found. Otherwise excision is the only treatment of this cancer on our species.

Islamic fascism..

I have noticed this with the so-called Islamic leaders in western societies - they hardly ever condemn the kind of mindless terror we have come to associate with their kinsmen, and when they do it, it is with a lot of rationalisations. I always watch their interviews on TV in a bemused way - oh the young Pakistanis in Britain feel the plight of their cousins in Palestine( but they hardly think of their own brothers in Pakistan who are living below the poverty line - 50% of the population in fact) - so they buy a rucksack, fill it with whatever incendiary they can and go to the London tube to create mayhem. In effect that is what their apologists say on TV. Not one of these gentlemen , who get so affronted by the word "fascism" have ever raised a hand to feed the countless millions of their bretheren from Africa to Bangladesh who are dying of hunger. For that they depend on the infidel West. It reminds me of being caught up in a street demo while visiting Dacca, Bangladesh. The demonstration was of course about how Jerusalem had been stolen from the Muslims. I asked a very agitated Bangladeshi where Jerusalem was - his reply, "in America"!!! 60% of the people from Morocco to Bangladesh & Indonesia are illeterate and can't even sign their names. Instead of getting het up about the word "fascism", I suggest to these so called Mislim spokesmen to go and teach just the alphabet to their co-religionists. Bush, whom I personally consider a disaster, has for once used an appropriate word. A spade has to be called a spade. Why should normal, law abiding Muslims get upset about what we call the terrorists. And not one of these so called spokesmen, living not in Palestinian refugee camps but in the luxury of London or Washington, with their crocodile tears for the plight of Palestinians, ever said a word when Pol Pot massacred half the population of Cambodia - unfortunately they were not muslims , so no muslim leader in the West or for that matter in the East ever thought the tortured Cambodians even merited a mention. It is time the West learnt to call a spade a spade and political correctness be hanged!!!! Ivar Tabrizi

Islamic Fascists

This should be an article in the newspaper under Editorial! I agree with you. Let's all quit tippy-toing around the words and call it what it is. It sickens me to see evil people hurt, maim and destroy in the name of any religion and to use it as a front for their own agenda. It happens all the time. Look at the recent capture of cult leader Warren Jeffs. He used religion to promote a whole society of polygamy and pedophilia! He's a disgusting individual. I know the United States promotes freedom of religion but I thought that that freedom was also contingent upon whether or not what you are doing in the name of that particular religion doesn't infringe upon the rights of others (whether they are aware of their rights or not). We need a new approach. Any ideas? Michele
