A 6 year old Delaware boy who is in the Cub Scouts and recently got a Swiss army pocket knife looking camping utensil which had the knife, spoon and fork in it recently got 45 days in the schools "reform school."  Being a father and grandfather, I know the pure joy of a 6 year old to have something new and different to show other kids. Belonging to a group at that age would also make him proud. Unfortunately, I can see both sides of the situation, and realize what could happen with it, but I think the punishment is too severe.
