It's Not 1986
posted August 25, 2009 - 6:21pmEverybody reading this is aware that we live in the twenty-first century. I happen to plan on moving to LA in the near future and have been half-trying to convince friends of mine to come along. One of them refused outright on the grounds that, "It's full of idiots who still think and act like it's 1986."
I brushed it off, but then gave it some thought. I went over some of the musicians I knew from the area, and indeed, 1986 was the best way to describe them. No, rock and roll is not dead. Neither is heavy metal. Glam metal, also, has its place in the twenty-first century.
Spandex, however, should be allowed to live on in memory, not on stage. As wonderful and talented as some of these guys are, they insist on ruining it with copious amounts of hairspray and skin-tight spandex. Tight pants are awesome, mind you. Spandex is not.
