It's the Economy, Stupid! -- And it IS based on Science.

It's the Economy, Stupid. -- And it IS based on Science.

It is the Economy. It is not Health Care. You've just a few more days. It is based on science and engineering. And there are the green jobs needed to build the economy, on a global scale -- all found in science and engineering.

The Science Debate 2008 has directly several million supporters -- not just top level Nobel Laureates -- not just the thousands of people who actually expect something of substance from the "new" administration. But ordinary people who recognize we have immense problems to solve that will require strong science and technology to accomplish. The survival of our species and most of the life forms with which we share the Earth depend on what happens in this next presidential cycle -- one more important than any political cycle America has ever faced.

The unfortunate thing is the puppet masters invisibly behind the candidates are pulling the strings the candidates may not even suspect exist. My fear is the denial for cause. And that to mean because the handlers are afraid of a foolishness in exposure.

This article, as a part of the Policy Forum is published in Science today.

The Debate team, and millions of supporters will likely stay engaged through this cycle.

I had wanted, and still do want, the "debate" field opened to every candidate appearing on the ballots

I think Nader, if he'd been invited, would have "won" the "debate." But there would have been a clear showing if all had been invited. Some have suspended their campaigns, not surrendered them. It would have been worthwhile.

This link to 10 years ago 8 May 1998 also demonstrates what is wrong with these pretenders to be leaders. http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/sci;280/5365/832?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=James+Lovelock+%22+abook+for+all+season&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&resourcetype=HWCIT

I also think James Lovelock's use of the English ditty below, explaining what we "do fear" is appearing to be foolish. Lovelock's use of an old English verse skillfully points to the major dichotomy which you may hardly feel politicians can escape:

"They thieve and plot and toil and plod
and go to church on Sunday.
It's true enough that some fear God
but they all fear Mrs. Grundy."

What is it about the science debate they fear? Looking foolish? The voters would like to know. The Democratic Candidates announced they would Debate Faith."

They apparently do not know the strongest act of faith all scientists share.

But they certainly could have attended the debate and found what comprises true faith
