Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Tackle Richard Collier Paralyzed Below the Waist and Left Leg Amputated

Collier was shot multiple times while sitting in a car outside of an apartment building on September 2nd. The 26 year-old Collier was in critical condition and was on a ventilator for three weeks. He has no memory of the shooting. Richard Collier was shot 14 times in the back, left leg and groin, and buttock. Surgeons removed 5 bullets from his bladder and another severed his spinal cord causing paralysis below his waist. His left leg had to be amputated after blood clots formed.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said “It’s a great tragedy for a young man who had such a promising future.”

No one has yet been arrested in the shooting although authorities do not think that this was a random shooting and that Collier may have been specifically targeted.
