Janet Murguia |La Raza | Immigration Debate
posted February 4, 2008 - 11:13pmJanet Murguia, president of the National Council of La Raza, has come out to openly attack the anti-immigration critics and activists for their inflammatory remarks, which have been echoed by the media.
La Raza is a Hispanic civil rights group, the largest in the country.
Murguia singled out critics and commentators like Lou Dobbs of CNN, Glen Beck, Pat Buchanan of MSNBC and Jim Gilchrist of the Minutemen Project. She has called on the top media organizations to curb the hate-speech that's being spread around.
Hispanics have bore the brunt of such insensitive and virulent remarks because of the large number of illegal immigrants who have found their way across the border into the U.S. They have come for better economic opportunities, and have in fact provided a much needed work-force, though underpaid and often abused, in sectors that ordinary Americans shun.
