Japanese Man Locked Up for a Year and Recorded for a TV Show - Reality Show and Entertainment

Face of Entertainment & Reality Shows - Japnese Man Locked Up and Recorded for TV Show

There is this Japanese reality show called as Denpa Shonen. It is in the news because a Japanese man was stripped naked and shut in an apartment, alone with no food, furniture, household goods, or entertainment. He was kept there for over a year until he had won $10 000 in prizes by sending in postcards to contests. All his actions in the room were televised on National TV as part of the show.

Now this is something appalling. Imagine a National TV airing this as an entertainment. And people sitting with popcorn and cola to watch this so called "amusement". What kind of society are we coming to? We choose to ignore our sensibilities and get entertained by this stuff to drive out boredom.

On one hand we have news channels and media highlighting plight of people to draw public attention in a bid to alleviate sufferings of the victim. On the other we have a stage-managed abuse of sorts packaged as national entertainment in the form of reality show. This is an ugly form of reality show or entertainment and in my opinion needs to be severely moderated.

The participant is not solely responsible for this though. He is only feeding the collective desire to view this form of lewd entertainment. Much of it is driven by money too.

Surely there are much saner and graceful forms of entertainment and leisure than this.

We Get What We Want

Crazybeanrider, it surely is a matter of concern when we call this form of exploitation an entertainment. The man in question chooses and allows own expliotation in return for money. As a society it is for us to reject these kind of shows and dissuade similar ones from coming up. There are many people who live in far worser conditions. What then stops the media from packaging these into new kind of reality show? THe answer i think is US. I think the buck should stop with the society and community at large. If we as a community desist from watching such shows the media will not feed us with it. After all media gives us what we want. I think this is the most disturbing aspect of all - the kind of content we choose as entertainment.... Thanks for writing in. My Profile & Articles Do the Write Thing & Get Paid Here

Definetly disturbing

This is so disturbing on so many levels. That a man is so desperate for money that he would subject himself to such ghastly entertainment. And it makes me wonder why anybody would want to watch. I am not sure why I find it disturbing when it is almost funny. I enjoyed the article. Thanks for posting. +1

Wow !...TV Squad Noticed My Post

Thanks Xomba Mod, for bringing this to my attention. I did notice comments related to my reported view and found the reporter to be in agreement. So the man in the room finally leaves with some money. I am not sure how much self worth or esteem he is leaving behind. Or how much he is left with. I still cringe to think that the whole show was meant to entertain people. Still find the whole thing corny. Makes me wonder what other forms entertainment can take.
