Jazz trumpeter debuts CD in Boston

BOSTON, MA, United States (UPI) -- A 23-year-old trumpeter who could be the latest in a line of New Orleans greats will be celebrating the release of his debut CD in Boston on Wednesday.

Twenty-three-year-old Christian Scott has strong ties to Boston, the Boston Globe reported Sunday. Before graduating from Berklee in 2004, Scott has played everywhere from Wally`s Cafe in the South End to Berklee`s David Friend Recital Hall.

On the day of the release of his debut 'Rewind That,' Scott and his band will be jazzing up Scullers.

Scott took up the trumpet at the age of 12 and within a couple of years was touring internationally with his uncle and teacher, saxophonist Donald Harrison.

By the time Scott got to Berklee, he was able to test out of several classes and self-produced a CD that he sold on consignment at Virgin, the newspaper said.

During an in-store promotion of the CD, a former distributor persuaded Scott to send a copy of the CD to Concord and within days he was offered his first contract.
