JD Power Smartphone Rankings: Apple iPhone on Top, Motorola Last

JD Power does not only rank cars in terms of customer satisfaction.  The company also ranks cell phone service.  They do it for prepaid phones and they recently did it for smartphones.

Apple was at the top of the list, with above average ratings. nbsp;Oddly enough, there are only two companies--Apple and LG--that fell into the "above average" category.

Motorola was not so lucky.  The phone maker came in last.  But the company did not have much on the table to really compete with companies like LG and Apple (iPhone).  When the Motorola Cliq comes out in the beginning of November (it will also be available for pre-order online), the company's fortunes may change.

Next year's JD Power rankings may be quite different than they are this year as offerings from Moto and Palm (with the Pre) should be tougher competitors.  That iPhone is so darn smug isn't it?  It's a heck of a phone and has truly attained a place in modern culture.

If Cliq lives up to the hype, it may be able to do the same.  It's unlikely it will be as powerful a force as the iPhone, but even if it gets a quarter of the love Apple's device gets, it will be a success.
