The Jellyfish That Ages Backwards

In the Curious Case of Benjamin Button we all know that Brad Pitt aging backwards is a slice of Hollywood entertainment and special effects.

There is however a tiny creature- no bigger than the human fingernail - that can transform from its adult state to its baby state and repeat this process over and over again. The Turritopsis Dorhnii uses this evolutionary trick to its advantage in times of stress like hunger or extremes of temperature and has been so successful that it is being found today in stretches of ocean far from its natural habitat.

You may think that with such impressive rejuvenating qualities the little jellyfish might be a prime candidate for the position of top ingredient in expensive anti-aging cosmetics and skin care regimes but not so, dsay the scientists. If Turritosis dohrnii proves to have any medicinal qualities it will be in the fight against cancer that it is most likely to be used.
