Jesus Has a Social Network...
posted December 6, 2007 - 12:51pmOr at least His followers do. A New York-based company, Community Connect, has eschewed the user-created social network commonly found online and focused on creating its own niches.
Their first network was the Asian-themed AsianAve, which was followed by BlackPlanet, MiGente, and Glee, which is a social network for Gays and Lesbians.
The newest member of their group is Faithbase, which is a social network for Christians to meet other Christians. The network was launched about six months ago, but its real growth toward its current membership of over 50,000 didn't happen until it was more openly marketed just recently.
Having a Gay and Lesbian network under the same umbrella as a Christian network would raise some eyebrows and, perhaps, some concerns. So far, there have been a few questions of the owners but the two social networks are mutually exclusive, which helps in keeping the two ideologically-opposed groups separate.
While Faithbase is designed for Christians, there aren't any current plans by its creators to market other social network for other religions.
