Joan Root: The Life and Violent Death of a Kenyan Conservationist
posted July 11, 2009 - 10:53amJoan Root spent her life as a conservationist and filmmaker in Africa, seeking to preserve wildlife. She met a violent death several years ago in her own home at the hands of AK-47 wielding intruders, though the crime has never been solved. Her story is told in the new book Wildflower: Extraordinary Life and Untimely Death in Africa.
You can find an audio interview with the book's author, Mark Seal, at the link below, and a USA Today review of the book here: http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/reviews/2009-07-08-wildflower-mark-seal-jane-root_N.htm

A life well spent
Though Joan Root's murder remained unsolved but hers was a life well spent and reminds me of the former Philippine senator, Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, who became instrumental in bringing back feedom in our country. He was killed by unknown gunmen despite tough security officers with him, since he had been a political detainee for several years before his death.
