John Adams, 2nd President of the United States

John Adams, 2nd President of the United States

John Adams, the second President of our free and remarkable country.  President Adams was Vice President under George Washington from 1789 to 1797, and then elected as President, himself, in 1797.  President Adams was a federalist, by design, believing the country should control the parts.

As President, Adams passed into nbsp;law many controversial acts.  Included in these acts were rules increasing naturalization of immigrants living in the country from five to fourteen years before becoming American citizens, rules that allowed the President to deport "dangerous" aliens at will, and expel or imprison enemy aliens during times of war.

In addition to laws directed toward increase in American populous, there were also laws designed to contain the voice of the people.  The Sedition Act was written and brought into office to keep disention and angry speech against the administration as an illegal act.  Violent acts and interference with officers were included in this act, but so was speaking "false, scandalous and malicious" manner against the government.

President Adams was married to Abigail Smith Adams.  In her own right, she was an intelligent woman.  She was educated at home, and read diverse publications.  She kept correspondence with John during his terms at the Continental Congress, and was a strong advocate for the rights of women.  Because of her intellect and her ability to manage both the workings and the finances of their vast farm, and the four children they had, she was surely a woman to contend with.  She died in 1818, seven short years before her son, John Quincy Adams, was elected as the sixth President.

During his tenure, the capital completed its move to Washington DC, the Library of Congress was established, and the Navy Department and Marine Corps were created.  As for the Marines, they contend their birthday is 10 November, 1775, being formed and decided under the influence of good drink at Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, PA.

In support of fair trials for all people, John Adams, before America was truly a country, defended British soliers who were accused of killing five colonists during the now famous Boston Masacre.  Adams did not agree with the British policies, but felt that justice was for all men, and wished to ensure they were heard fairly.  (additional reading:  http://americanhistory.about.com/od/revolutionarywar/a/boston_massacre.htm).

After that trial the Continental Congress began talking of releasing their control by British authorities who they did not agree with.  John Adams was appointed to the cabinet that was established to write the Declaration of Independence, penned by Thomas Jefferson.

There were no political parties as such in the beginning of American History.  When the votes were counted, the highest vote recipient became President, and the next became Vice President.  Thomas Jefferson was the Vice President under John Adams.

John Adams was a staunch federalist.  His belief was that the federal government should be in direct control of all things in the country.  This was a differing opinion from his Vice President's who believed that individual states would be better equipped to handle states' affairs.

When discussing John Adams, there are some direct relationships between him and our current administration and Congress.  With these similarities, and knowing that because of John Adams's big government methods of governing, is it possible History is repeating itself?  President Adams did not win his second bid for the White House because of his radically controlling concepts.

America was intended to be free, and the people to enjoy liberty.

EXACTLY!

And now there is someone else up there that wants to tell everyone exactly what is going to happen and that we have to do what they want us to do no matter what.  I just about despise politicians.  I suppose they are a neccesary evil, but it isn't necessary for them to be evil--they choose that over being decent humans.

Great work my friend!

I love it.
