John McCain Panama Citizen | Can He Be President?

A debate is raging as to whether John McCain, who has born in the Panama canal zone to two American parents, is a natural born citizen and eligible to be president. This could get pretty interesting...

Much Ado About Nothing...

I was born in a West German hospital while my Army officer father was stationed there. Since both my parents are US citizens, I don't have any status as a German or part-German under German law. However, if my mother was a German national and married my father, I would have dual citizenship. If I ever decided to sell out my principles and had the means to run for our nation's highest office, there wouldn't be any question of my citizenship. So...all of this debate only serves to take attention away from the real issues of who is the best candidate for president. The media will waste weeks fueling it anyway. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

Not a problem for McCain, it seems

I found an article in the Washington Post from almost 10 years ago that says McCain's place of birth shouldn't be a problem: "But the First Congress, on March 26, 1790, approved an act that declared, "The children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural-born citizens of the United States." That would seem to include McCain, whose parents were both citizens and whose father was a Navy officer stationed at the U.S. naval base in Panama at the time of John's birth in 1936."
