Judaism, Christianity and Islam | Some Conveniently Overlooked Truths

Objective and concise and written to stimulate debate about the monotheist religions. The order is chronological according to when each – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – was established. All “truths” can be substantiated.

Judaism

During the 8th and 9th centuries AD proselytising (encouraging the conversion of non-Jews to Judaism) was encouraged.

Christianity

Christianity was a small cult before the supposed conversion of Emperor Constantine when he had a vision of a burning cross in a dream. This was a political manoeuvre and Constantine was never a Christian.

Islam

The first convert to Islam was a woman and one of Mohammed’s wives. She was a widow, with children when she married.

All Three Monotheist Religions

All three religions have elements in common. However, Judaism and Islam are most similar – for instance diet restrictions and burial practices. Until modern times, Jews and Muslims lived in peace and in close proximity to each other.

Monotheism also tends to be Patriarchal

I agree with your assessment of monotheism in its current form, AAT2. I do not believe in chattel slavery and cannot support any belief system that does. For crying out loud, women didn't get the vote until the U.S. Constitution was amended with Amendment XIX (1920) and there are some very vocal right-wing men's groups that believe that women's suffrage was and is a mistake. I believe that both men and women should be represented equally and marriage vows containing the words "to love, honor, and OBEY" are okay but should not be taken literally in the case of the last word. Religion should never be used as the expensive sports car equivalent of overcompensation. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!

JDub's beef with Christianity is much like mine---the Big Heads 'say' that the laws were "fulfilled" by JC (sort of 'done away with,' in that they were all summed up in One Law-Thingy), but then they each set up the 'methods' they've used as THE ONLY GOOD WAY, trying to make any other way that ends up in the same place as theirs 'evil' if they can't see where it's going. That typically involves following the nature of the masculine, finding joy in making himself Greater-Than ... greater-than women because he has to WORK to be as attractive to her as she is to him 'naturally'; greater-than other men to show that he deserves a 'she' more than other vying suitors. or somethin` I was gonna say something about how awesome I am (being able to get away with stuff, because I simply observe it and try not to add any of myself that's not already there), but I forgot where I was going to segue into 'that's because of the forgiving Spirit that Jesus Christ gave to His disciples.' ---Give Your Opinion Too!, & Google MIGHT find some extra money for you like they do for My Review of TheatreOCU's Recent Awesome! or http://www.mylot.com/mythman?ref=mythman

And Another Thing Too

That brings up another beef - there used to be Godhead a being half and half - female and male. Before rejecting religion and adopting a set of principles which allow me to curse, be rude and speak with a foul mouthed tongue but care - God was the old bloke, white beard in the cloud (you know) who could strike anyone dead for a single curse. Whatever, ecclesiastical history rocks!

My issue with Monotheism in general

My own belief system is based on a God Creator, but I do not believe in the organized religious approach to the Universal timeline. I believe that life follows a cycle and that we die, check back in spiritually, then head out onto another life adventure in human form. Constant evolution and learning. Monotheism teaches that we must accept that there is a beginning and end for everything. That's why people get so freaked out over the so-called End Times prophecies. They always want to know "when" the end will come and spend their whole lives focused on the end, thereby missing the "in between" of life. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!

Appreciated jdubhub

Cheers for that informed comment - I like the type one has to mull over and bring instant clarity. My biggest beef with organised religion is the second class status of women and other spurious additions to their rules - eg homophobia. That's why I can't wait to start publishing my articles as a Xomba writer for History. Judaism versus Christianity

Judaism in the Old Testament is about THE LAW, as in God's Law handed down to Moses. Most of the O.T. is based on God giving a law, humans breaking the law, and humans being punished for breaking the law. Christianity in the New Testament is about the realization that no human is capable of keeping all of God's laws and that only by being in a State of Grace via the Son can humankind hope to make it into heaven. Even with the ideological split between the Old and New Testaments, the Bible's primary theme is THE LAW. But, just like drivers who drink and drive or who use cell phones when the law proscribes it, people are going to follow the laws that make sense to them. That's my beef with organized religion. Are the laws that we are told come from "God" really from God or are they an interpretation of what a human claims came from God? So much organized religion is derivative and open to reinterpretation. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!

I like Mythy because...

he can be more offensive than me and gets away with it! Not really! 1) I was hoping to get to discuss Christian burial practices - particularly the reaction to them by the Pagans and Jews when they first saw dead bodies being venerated. Never mind - living in hope... In your own time with number 2 and 3 Mythy - I hope that doesn't cause you any offence there but you'll have to wait until hell frezzes over for an apology - tee hee AndAnotherThing2’s Werbert – a less techy widget "Many a true word spoken in jest" (Wilma Proops ad infinitum passim) 1 The Element of Surprise 1 2 The Element of Surprise 2 3 How to Embarrass Your Children 4 Shut Your Gob You Annoying Creep 5 How to Make Your Own Codpiece 6 The Jack Sprat Syndrome

Your Argument ... My Response ... lol @AndAnotherThing2-mythman

... All the religions are basically the same. ... Two responses: First, I don't care; Second, maybe, but (see 'First'). To address the three directions you want to go: 1) you say that Judaism & Islam are more-similar than Christianity is to either. That sounds about right: if I remember my mythology right, Judaism & Islam seperated when Abraham cutoff one son (that he had with a servant-woman) for the other that he had with his wife. He turned Hagar's son away while Sarah's son inherited THE BLESSING. Christianity was just New Age spin of Judaism (in which 'righteousness' is based on how good you were before where Christianity is all about 'offering the clean slate'). There are two more ... yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn ... ---Give Your Opinion Too!, & Google MIGHT find some extra money for you like they do for My Review of TheatreOCU's Recent Awesome! or http://www.mylot.com/mythman?ref=mythman

Similarities of Monotheist Religions

Thanks for your comment. I'd like to steer the debate towards: 1) the similarities within the monotheist religions. 2) the position of women within them 3) how each can sanction violence Any chance you could address these?
