July Video Game Hardware Sales
posted August 11, 2006 - 5:21pmThe July Hardware sales figures were released today by The NPD Group for the US. The breakdown goes as follows:
1. DS - 377,000
2. PS2 - 241,000
3. Xbox 360 - 206,000
4. GBA - 163,000
5. PSP - 161,000
6. GCN - 44,000
7. Xbox - 12,000
With the release of the remodeled Nintendo DS (The DS Lite), there has been a jump in sales for Nintedo. The Playstation 2 continues to sell strong, as does the Xbox 360. The most interesting figure here to me is the inability for the PSP to outsell the Gameboy Advance, a system that was originally released almost 5 years ago. Sony really needs to get it's act together with the PSP or Nintendo is going to run away from them really fast. It already seems like the UMD is going to be the next BetaMax or MiniDisc.
