Just a fantasy
posted November 2, 2006 - 5:25amCan you imagine if two months ago, politicians awoke one morning and thought the American people had I.Q.s above the levels of an amoeba? If they developed self-respect as well as respect for us?
Just picture it. Congressman Foley would have realized he can't sponsor child protection
legislation while hitting on male pages and get away with it. If he did, he'd have realized nobody would buy his excuse that it's all an alchohol problem.
John Kerry might have stuck to the issues instead of either: making a bad personal joke about George Bush; or denigrating the intelligence of the military. If he wanted to make a bad joke about Bush, he'd have first remembered that Bush had a higher grade point average at Yale than him. So, man of the people Johnny, if being a bad student gets you to be a president sending troops to Iraq, does that mean being a worse student gets you into the United States Senate?
On the state level here in New York, our incumbent comptroller Alan Hevesi might not have such utter contempt for New Yorkers that he stole thousands for personal use while simultaneously attacking the famous and obscure for amounts ranging from hundreds to millions.
Too bad it's just a fantasy but like Orwell said, power corrupts.
