Just A Mom's Dream of a Web Designing life.
posted September 11, 2009 - 8:11pmDream jobs. Those two little words mean so many things to so many of us. What one may have in mind as a dream job won't always be what someone else has in mind. For me, a dream job is one where I can be at home with my children. I know that is a rather broad idea of a dream job. I have ideas for those things as well. The main thing that makes my dream job is being home with my children. Being able to see the growth that they each display everyday.
As I said I do know the type of work that I would love to be doing from home. Working from my computer is a must. I spend about 10 hours or more a day on this computer. Computers are a passion of mine. The second thing that my dream job must include is graphics. I love working with art. I can not exactly draw to save my life. I love working with Paint Shop Pro. Making graphics, and using some that I have gotten permission to use.
Several years ago, I learned how to hand code a website. I researched online to find free classes that would walk me through HTML and CSS. I took as many classes from different websites as I could find. After taking classes from five or six different sites, and passing those classes, I feel as though I can make unique websites.
Working from home, would afford me several things. First of all, I would be at home with my children. They really are the loves of my life. Secondly, the kind of work I have explained would allow me the continued growth in a career that I have come to enjoy very much. Allowing me the chance to grow my abilities as a web designer. Thirdly, it would allow me to continue a new love I have recently discovered, writing. I found that as long as you are truly writing about something that you are passionate about that you can and will be a good writer.
So, what's holding me back from having that dream job? Where to begin. As much as I am confident in my ability to design web sites, I am equally confident that I have no idea where to begin. Honestly, financially there is no way that I can afford advertising. Without advertisments, you don't get very much exposure. Without exposure, let's face it you are not going to get very many clients. No clients, equals a failed web design business.
I honestly would love to be enjoying my dream in reality.
Until then, my dream continues.
