Just Shut Your Gob You Annoying Creep | A Lesson in Self Control

Just Shut Your Gob You Annoying Creep | A Lesson in Self Control

Here’s some good advice for readers who have to deal with rude, arrogant, argumentative types. These could be colleagues, associates, bosses or neighbours. Never say “just shut your gob you annoying creep”, “go away you pathetic turd-wart”, “do you really think I’m going to stand for that you ridiculous, ignorant __________________” [censored] even if this is exactly what you are thinking.

Instead, learn to let them rant and make fools of themselves in the process. Learn to remain controlled and – even when they are at their rudest and most arrogant (for example: when professing more expertise than they actually have while rubbishing yours) – remain reasonable and cling to the moral high ground – even if you do this in a manner akin to a rat on a sinking ship.

The Benefits of the Wilma Proops Approach to Solving this Problem

Why take this approach? Because that is the most annoying to them and while you are drawing their fire others are getting off lightly. Also, it can be fun!

Other measures you can adopt with rude arrogant people are:

Ignore them completely – not to be advised because they are likely to come back next time ruder and more arrogant, either to you or a more vulnerable colleague or member of your on or offline community.

Report them to their line manager – this can work but be warned it can act like a rattle of a cage or, worse, the poking of an angry wasps’ nest.

Take them on in a pacifist duel! To do this all you have to do is prove that they are not superior and you are at least their equal.

Wilma Proops is the infamous Agony Aunt to the Stars. Read more about her approach to problem solving on her blog, which she doesn’t bother to keep up to date, HERE

Shut Your Gob!

No - not you HavingMySay - but there are a few people I am preparing to tell where to get off today. I agree, practice makes perfect when it comes to standing up for yourself... I think I'm becoming too sensitive!

I live in Southern Spain very near to the beach, although I've never been to, or demonstrated cookery at Macy's I do love creating great food and eating lots!!!!! I also have a taste for sherry, but then I do live in Andalucia where a normal bottle of Tio Pepe costs around 6 euros... too cheap!! Am I being too sensitive? LOL LOL LOL

Telling People Where to Get Off!

You become practiced with age. Suffering rude and arrogant people seemed to be a hobby when I was younger. It was not easy telling the first person to "get lost" and stop having anything to do with them but it did become easier. Perhaps this is why I don't get ripped off by tradesmen - roofing contractors and the like - whereas some of my friends do.

Yes, that was HER!

she developed a taste for sherry when she overstayed her welcome on the Costa la Luz in Spain. Another reason I warned members not to mention their beach-side, luxury residences when Wilma's about...you wouldn't want her squatting. Please let me know if you spot her again. Anything free and coprporate is her bag and if she can get a fee to attend - so much the better. I believe, she was at that AIG "jolly" the day after AIG received $3 trillion of tax payers money. Her fee was 125,000 GBP plus generous expenses but she does give a good "motivational talk" for that price - between you and me, she told me that she'd "give a good bl**dy anything for that"!

Gobsmacked

I spotted Ms. Proops at a cooking demonstration at Macy's recently, but it seems she was just there to sneak swigs of the cooking sherry.

Re: Shut Your Gob

I'm sorry to report that Wilma Proops was found asleep at her desk this morning, her face resting on an atlas, open at the page featuring Maui. I'd advise that you break it to your wife - gently - and always better to expect the worst... Glad you've chuckled reading the article All the best AndAnotherThing2

Dont tell her

I'm glad she thinks I live in Florida and she doesn't know about my hideaway on Maui. And then she could blackmail me by telling my wife about my hideaway there also. Then I would never be able to get rid of her. That is, get rid of Wilma Proops, not my wife, I want to keep her. lol
