Kangaroos Fart Less Than Cattle and Will Save Our Universe
posted December 28, 2008 - 5:50pmIn this age of emission-consciousness it may still be socially unacceptable to have some human emission-control device to monitor such anti-environmental behaviour such as wind production, so that we can hide such squeamishness by looking in detail at the self-same behaviour by animals - after all, they seem to have little pride and even less choice.
The green accountants who seem to take great joy in monitoring the bodily functions of every species, do come up with such fascinating statistics such as that the greenhouse gas emissions of one cow are equivalent to driving an SUV 10,000 kilometers. In my opinion, this kind of comparison is purposefully mindless as the point of buying beef is to eat it, whereas the point of driving is to get somewhere.
But to the rescue leaps the Australian kangaroo. It emits 600 times less greenhouse gases than a cow. Kangaroo meat tastes good, makes decent burgers and will save our planet from those belching, farting cows and sheep. Now, kangas are not the most docile peacenik food source one could dream up but I'm sure the clever chaps at the ministry for zero carbon food can solve that one too.
see New Scientist for full article. better still, invest in kanga meat. Actually, ostrich is also good but wasn't in the article. Anything big, with lots of meat... and a bad attitude, will fit the bill. So long as I don't personally have to go chase my next meal.
