Families in Crisis Foundation is focused on strengthening families in crisis and in times of need - we do everything we can to help every family. From basic needs, referrals to other services, to shoes. We help to create a blanket of services for each family, see them through with hope and compassion, help them to create positive permanent change in their lives, help them to be self sufficient, and educate in the necessary tools to reach their full potential.
Currently we are doing our "Shoes for Children in Need" Campaign, where children of families in need or crisis get NEW shoes. Our goal for each month is 1500 pairs of shoes, as there is an overwhelming need of children who need shoes. With the weather getting colder, this is an immediate need, to keep children's feet warm and keep the child healthy. At an average cost of $6.00 per pair, $30.00 buys approximately five pairs of shoes. Such a small price to pay to keep children healthy. Oct. 16 2008, we distributed shoes to low income and in need children through the Latchkey Program in Haysville. Oct. 4 we had a bake sale at Dollar General in Haysville. Oct.17th and 18th we performed a bake sale at Wal-Mart on 21st and Maize Rd. Families in crisis has been, and is performing various functions to raise funds (bake sales, selling entertainment books, soliciting business and private donations) to be able to purchase and distribute shoes to children in need.
Have you ever had to choose between having your electricity on, or buying a pair of shoes for your children? Buying gas for your car to go to work, or having the basic needs (soap, toothpaste, socks, ect.) it takes to live? Or about worrying how you are going to feed your children for the week because you just paid rent? There are approximately 663,000 Kansans who know what this feels like, and the reality of it is, almost all of these parents are working. These little things, that most of us take for granted, can be big hurdles to jump for families in need with children. The little things that most of us don't even think twice about, are a juggling act of bills versus needs, and unfortunately children don't understand. They are just caught in the middle, trying to figure out why they can't have a new pair of shoes- when theirs are worn out, or socks when theirs are tattered. And so these children go without, and often look at the future with bleak looks of despair, low self esteem, and hopelessness because their needs aren't being met sufficiently. We are dedicated to serving this need, and helping these children to gain self esteem, self confidence, trust, and hope in their future; so they may be successful, gain insight, and reach their full potential.
Did You Know? Last year in Kansas, 663,000 children and families lived below the national poverty level, and were unable to afford their most basic of needs (food, clothing, shelter, shoes, ect.). Currently with rising foreclosure rates, families that have never had to ask for help, now find themselves in a position- to where they need and require assistance. Currently we are launching our "Shoes for Children in Need" Campaign, where we will distribute NEW shoes to children of families in need, and some working parents. This ensures, that in the cold months coming, children will have warm feet; and families in need will not have to sacrifice something else they need to get them.
"No child should be without Shoes or not fit in because they are lacking something they need"
There are several ways that you can donate, mail a check or money order, mail a few pairs of NEW shoes, or use our website to donate through Paypal with your credit card. All donations are 100% tax deductible. It is as simple as that. Bring hope and promise to a child's future; while improving their self esteem, and self confidence, and create success in their futures to strive to reach their full potential. At an average of $6.00 per pair, $30.00 buys approximately five pairs.
