Katherine Harris Makes Controversial Comments On Religion
posted August 29, 2006 - 7:22amToday Florida Republicans will decide who will be their candidate for the US Senate. Leading the pack is the infamous Katherine Harris. Mainly known for role as Florida's secretary of state during the 2000 presidential election, Katherine Harris is a lightning rod. Over the weekend Harris made comments to the Florida Baptist Witness stating her opinions on religion and government.
Harris stated that she felt the seperation of church and state was a lie and that the founding fathers had never invisioned a secular goverment. She also said that the seperation of church and state is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers." She also feels that non-Christian officials will "legilate sin".
The Republican party, however, is not supporting her candidacy for US Senate. They feel that she is a too controversial candidate to defeat a relatively popular incumbent (Bill Nelson). According to the latest Quinnipiac poll Bill Nelson now leads Katherine Harris 61 percent to 24 percent.
